Lauren Cormack

I am a middle school maths teacher with several years of experience. I have taught in South Africa as well as in two international schools in Ho Chi Minh City. Recently, I have taken a year off to start my Master’s Degree in Education and have since then moved to Prague with my family. I also hold a Bachelor’s of Science, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, specialising in maths and biology. Teaching maths to middle school students is my favourite as I believe that this is where I can help students build fundamental and conceptual knowledge and skills, while still making maths meaningful through real-world applications.

I am a compassionate and dedicated maths teacher who believes that the purpose of education is to help empower learners by equipping them with transferable and critical thinking skills to make connections to real-world contexts. Teaching requires constant reflection of the craft in order to develop strategies to enable learners to grow in confidence to build fundamental skills that underpins the essence of being a mathematical thinker. I believe that in this way, and with time, effort and persistence, anyone can learn maths! I seek to create a positive and supportive learning space that allows learners to feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes as these are important in the learning process. Through the use of real world scenarios, students begin to make connections, build confidence and learn to enjoy maths.

My primary goal is to instill a love for learning mathematics to help my students fulfill their potential as both academics and global citizens who can contribute to building a better future.
